The Commit Partnership is proud to announce the launch of the Literacy Decodable Hub, a new initiative powered by its Strong Readers campaign. This Hub is designed to boost early literacy in Dallas communities by providing families and educators with free access to high-quality decodable books and reading tools aligned with the science of reading.
The first Literacy Decodable Hub will open on May 8, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM, at the Hampton-Illinois Branch Library, co-located with Jimmy Tyler Brashear Elementary School (2951 S Hampton Rd, Dallas, TX 75224). Community members are invited to attend the launch celebration and explore the resources available.
About the Hub
The Literacy Decodable Hub offers a collection of phonics-based books and resources to help children build foundational reading skills through a structured, evidence-based approach. These materials support students, parents, and educators in applying effective decoding strategies that are critical for reading comprehension and long-term academic success.
“Every child deserves the chance to become a confident reader,” says Commit’s Early Learning Managing Director Amber Shields. “By offering access to decodable books grounded in the science of reading, we’re empowering families—our children’s first and most important teachers—to support learning at home. Together, we’re helping students build strong reading foundations that will carry them through 3rd grade and beyond.”
What Are Decodable Books?
Decodable books are intentionally written to help children apply phonics skills they’ve learned—focusing on letter-sound correspondences in a clear, structured sequence. This approach minimizes the need for guessing or memorization and is especially beneficial for students with dyslexia or other learning differences. Research has consistently shown that a phonics-based approach improves reading outcomes for all learners.
