What is the Decodable Literacy Hub?

The Decodable Literacy Hub provides families, educators, and community partners with decodable books and tools grounded in the science of reading. These resources help students strengthen foundational reading skills and support families with strategies to encourage reading at home.

What are decodable books?

Decodable books are written using a structured phonics approach, allowing children to read independently by applying the letter-sound relationships they’ve already learned—not guessing or relying on pictures.

These books:

  • Follow a systematic sequence of phonics instruction
  • Are essential for developing reading fluency and confidence
  • Benefit all students, especially those with dyslexia or other learning difference

Why this matters

Research shows that decoding is essential to reading comprehension. If a child can’t read the words, they can’t understand the story. Decodable books offer an inclusive, effective way to build this critical skill—giving every child the opportunity to become a successful reader.

"Every child deserves the chance to become a confident reader. By offering access to decodable books grounded in the science of reading, we’re empowering families—our children’s first and most important teachers—to support learning at home. Together, we’re helping students build strong reading foundations that will carry them through 3rd grade and beyond." -Amber Shields, Managing Director, Early Matters Dallas
