Early Learning Community of Practice

The Early Learning Community of Practice is a collaborative initiative to support early childhood campus and district-based professionals to improve early childhood education outcomes.  The primary audience is district early learning directors, instructional coaches, and campus leaders focused on pre-K through second grade.

Through a series of convenings, this initiative provides educators with the opportunity to develop a comprehensive early childhood instructional framework. These Communities of Practice offer a dedicated space for early educators to learn, reflect, and collaborate on strengthening foundational literacy, numeracy, and bilingual instruction for pre-K through third grade students. By centering the voices and expertise of early childhood educators and leaders, this initiative aims to build stronger systems that elevate instructional leadership at every level—and ultimately improve student outcomes across Dallas County.

Emergent Bilingual/Early Learning Reviews

Commit partners with districts to review and strengthen elementary Emergent Bilingual programs. These comprehensive reviews help district leaders identify strengths and areas for improvement in instruction, curriculum, staffing, and supports to ensure systems are in place to accelerate both language development and academic success for EB students in Pre-K through 5th grade.

Strong Foundations: Literacy & Numeracy

Best in Southwest

The Best in Southwest Community of Practice is a collaborative initiative supporting four southern school systems—DeSoto ISD, Cedar Hill ISD, Lancaster ISD, and Duncanville ISD—in strengthening early literacy outcomes and closing the gap between their results and those of the broader Dallas County region.  The primary audience is superintendents, academic chiefs, and early literacy leaders from Duncanville ISD, Cedar Hill ISD, Lancaster ISD, and DeSoto ISD.

Participating districts receive tools and assistance to develop and refine a comprehensive literacy plan focused on increasing literacy proficiency among pre-K through third grade students. The work begins with each district selecting one campus to serve as a Learning Lab Site, receiving year-long, comprehensive early literacy support from Instruction Partners. This includes leadership summits, instructional diagnostics, tailored coaching for campus and district leaders, and short-cycle action plans focused on improving K-2 foundational skills.

Strategic Leadership Investment Grant: Early Learning Coordinators

Commit is investing in early learning instructional systems through a two-year grant that funds district-embedded Early Learning Coordinators. These leaders support high-quality curriculum implementation, job-embedded coaching, and aligned data practices to strengthen PK–2 instruction. The initiative helps districts build long-term leadership capacity to improve outcomes in early literacy and numeracy, with a plan to sustain the role post-grant.

Bluebonnet HQIM 3-5 Math Support

In partnership with SustainED, Commit is supporting implementation of high-quality math instructional materials (HQIM) in Grades 3–5 through the development of customized supplemental resources. This work includes quarterly focus groups and classroom walks to gather insight on instructional use. The goal is to strengthen HQIM implementation by ensuring materials are usable, aligned, and effectively support math instruction at scale. This is most relevant for curriculum leaders, instructional coaches, and 3–5 math teachers.

The Dallas County Coaching Summit is a learning community for campus and district-based professionals whose roles primarily involve leveraging instructional coaching to support teacher growth and development, ultimately leading to improved student outcomes.

Math Community of Practice

The Math Community of Practice is a collaborative initiative to support math campus and district professionals and improve math student outcomes. This is most relevant for district secondary math directors, instructional coaches and math leads (Grades 6–12).   

The program brings together school systems to share the best practices and tackle shared challenges. This initiative provides a collaborative space that empowers professionals to address obstacles, share practices, and strengthen instructional systems in math— all with the goal of strengthening middle and high school instructional frameworks. These sessions are designed to ensure students across the county have access to high-quality instruction that drives stronger academic outcomes.

The English Language Reading Arts (ELAR) Community of Practice is a collaborative initiative to support ELAR campus and district professionals and improve student outcomes.

Dallas County Priority Region Grant

Through the Dallas County Priority Region Grant, Commit is partnering with districts to increase 9th grade readiness for advanced coursework and dual credit. The work focuses on three strategic levers: building academic readiness, implementing real-time data systems to track early indicators, and providing high-quality 9th grade career and college advising. This initiative supports students in earning 15 college credits and successfully transitioning to postsecondary pathways. This is most relevant for district academic leaders, ninth-grade campus teams, and postsecondary readiness leads.

Strategic Leadership Investment Grant: Middle School Coordinators

Commit’s two-year investment supports the hiring of Middle Grades Coordinators in districts focused on improving outcomes in Grades 6–8. These roles are designed to embed system-level leadership capacity, strengthen curriculum and coaching alignment, and improve instruction in middle school math and literacy—ultimately contributing to gains in STAAR performance and long-term postsecondary readiness. This is most relevant for district secondary content directors, middle school principals, and academic chiefs.

TSI Community of Practice

The Texas Success Initiative Communities of Practice is a collaborative initiative to support college, career, and military readiness (CCMR) district leaders and strengthen academic readiness and post-secondary support.  

This initiative brings together up to 13 school systems to collectively problem-solve processes to better support students’ academic preparedness in high school, leading to better preparation for their post-secondary education. CCMR district leaders, along with content curricula coordinators, are encouraged to work together and develop strategies that help more students stay on a path to higher education—with one key approach being leveraging services that ensure students meet the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) criteria in reading and math. With aligned action, the TSI communities of practice helps ensure more students leave high school ready for whichever path they choose.

TSIA2 ELAR Toolkit

Commit is designing a TSIA2 ELAR Toolkit to help districts strengthen instructional and system-level supports for college readiness in ELAR. Modeled after the Math Toolkit, this resource will include tools and guidance across five areas: curriculum & instruction, systems & data, strategic staffing & scheduling, professional development, and family engagement. The ELAR Toolkit is in development and will incorporate feedback from district partners to ensure alignment and usability. This is most relevant for district ELAR directors, campus instructional leaders, and postsecondary readiness teams.

TSIA2 Math Instructional Support

Commit is partnering with Contigo Ed to co-develop TSIA2 math instructional resources, lesson materials, and professional development for high school math teachers. This initiative supports teachers in delivering aligned instruction and increasing student readiness for TSIA2 math success. This is most relevant for high school math teachers, secondary math directors, and instructional coaches.

TSI Conference

The TSI Conference will bring together district and regional leaders for a best-practices event focused on TSI readiness. Sessions will highlight strategies in instruction, data infrastructure, and advising—all designed to accelerate progress toward students meeting TSI benchmarks. This is most relevant for district academic teams, CCMR leaders, regional ESC staff, and postsecondary readiness stakeholders.

Lead 180

Lead 180 is a leadership development program designed to build the capacity of principal supervisors across North Texas school districts to effectively lead instructional and cultural improvements in their schools.  

By equipping participants with high-impact, research-based instructional leadership tools, this program supports principal supervisors and their leadership teams in driving cultural and strategic shifts needed to strengthen their campus environments. Through collaborative gatherings, participants explore best practices that will enhance their ability to scale school and system-level improvements. These tools are designed not just to support individual campuses, but to help school districts across the region align efforts, build sustainable leadership, and ultimately improve both student outcomes and school culture.

Human Capital Management Convenings

Human Capital Management Convenings are collaborative initiatives supporting human capital management leaders to strengthen educator quality and retention.  

Through a series of convenings, up to 12 school districts across Dallas County are collaborating to leverage educator workforce data, research, and promising practices to create strategic actions that strengthen teacher quality and retention. This includes focusing on strengthening certification pathways, improving onboarding and mentorship programs, and increasing retention rates. By aligning resources and pursuing collective solutions, participating school districts are building a more effective, equitable educator effectiveness framework—one that ensures every student is taught by a well-prepared, well-supported teacher.

Dallas County Consortium on Teacher Excellence

The Consortium is a cross-institutional partnership between Dallas County school districts and educator preparation programs (EPPs) committed to improving certification success, teacher readiness, and early-career retention.

The consortium is a collaborative space for districts and EPP’s to design and implement solutions that help new and aspiring teachers succeed in certification and enter classrooms ready to teach. Engagement includes sharing and acting on relevant teacher data, co-designing and piloting certification milestones, securing HB2 PREP Allotment to maximize available resources, and shaping shared solutions. Together, we are building an aligned, sustainable ecosystem of support that helps aspiring teachers get to and through certification and into classrooms where they’re needed most. Strengthening preparation pathways is essential to building a thriving teacher workforce—one that drives lasting improvements for school systems and student success.

This is a 4-5 times a year convening for districts across Dallas County to share learnings and collaborate on supports needed to help expand Teacher Incentive Allotment to additional teachers within their district system.
